Inflatable Packers International (IPI) has launched its new STX-60 packer system, designed for cost-effective and versatile mineral mining applications. Initially developed for CBM exploration, the STX-60 has proven to be a valuable addition to IPI’s range, particularly for straddle testing. This system offers advanced hydrological testing capabilities with its shut-in valve and can be upgraded for various testing scenarios, including PQ wireline and 6” RC hole testing. The STX-60 is also suitable for large and remote projects, providing a reliable backup for HQ SWiPS due to the commonality of packers.
The STX-60 system improves testing efficiency by reducing the time required for deployment and retrieval. Unlike traditional single-shot systems, the STX-60 can remain latched inside the barrel after the first test zone, saving significant time during multiple straddle tests. This efficiency is particularly beneficial in projects with numerous test zones, as it minimizes downtime and reduces the need for specialist staff and equipment on-site.
Field trials in Ghana demonstrated the STX-60’s effectiveness, showing considerable time savings compared to the SWiPS system. The STX-60’s ability to perform complex testing, such as DST and IFO tests, makes it a versatile tool for various hydrological and geotechnical investigations. IPI’s commitment to innovation and efficiency is evident in the development of the STX-60, which enhances the overall productivity and cost-effectiveness of mineral exploration projects
